2024 UPDATE

Our webshop is now closed with the business in its current form closing on March 31, 2024. In coming months this page will change over to becoming on online learning academy, starting with our cheeses (including our award winning blue cheese)

Stay tuned!

MOA Bakery was founded in 2015 by Jane after being unable to find vegan options at local cafes. After having to give up a career in IT due to chronic illness (ME/CFS), Jane also needed to minimise gluten in her diet. Having healthy options that catered for the major allergies was really important for the business and Jane. Starting from a stall at the Oamaru Farmers’ Market, in 2016, we opened a bricks and mortar store in a historic building in Oamaru. Starting out at one day a week, we are now open Thursdays and Fridays, with Sundays at the Farmers Market. Although, over winter, we hibernate at the store on Sundays rather than the market. Many people wonder why we’re open such limited hours - as well as having a chronic illness, Jane suffered a brain injury in a scooter accident in 2016 which exacerbated some of the ME symptoms, so we need to keep our opening hours manageable - but we are happy to work with you if you are unable to visit the store during our usual opening hours.

As well as healthy lunches at the shop and market, we also supply other shops and cafes from Christchurch to Invercargill. We also send cheesecakes and other goodies around the country and do local catering and bespoke cake orders. In the last few years, we have increased our offerings to include a variety of vegan cheeses, fermented vegetables, raw organic chocolate and much more.
